Lisbon became the great embarkation point. But not everybody could get to Lisbon directly... And so a torturous, round-about refugee trail sprang up. Paris to Marseilles, across the Mediterranean to Oran [in Algeria], then by train or auto or foot across the rim of Africa to Casablanca in French Morocco. Here the fortunate ones through money or influence or luck might obtain exit visas and scurry to Lisbon, and from Lisbon to the New World. But the others wait in Casablanca, and wait and wait and wait.”

"...two German couriers carrying important official documents murdered on train from Oran. Murderers and possible accomplices headed for Casablanca. Round up all suspicious characters and search them for stolen documents. Important

THE STORY
At the time of the Second World War, Rick lived in Casablanca, where he had a café. One day a couple arrived at his café. They were Ilsa and Viktor Laszlo. Ilsa asked the pianist to play a song As Time Goes By. Rick listened to the song and recognised Ilsa. She was the woman he loved when he lived in Paris.
Ilsa explained to Rick that her husband was in danger because the Nazis wanted to capture him. Viktor needed a visa to escape to America. Rick decided to obtain the visa for Ilsa and Viktor, but Ilsa didn't want to escape. She loved Rick and wanted to escape with him.
Finally Rick obtained two visas and Ilsa agreed to go to America with her husband. Rick stayed in Casablanca, alone once more.

THE FAMOUS LINES
We'll always have Paris.--Humphrey Bogart to Ingrid Bergman

Louie, I think this could be the beginning of a beautiful friendship. --Humphrey Bogart

Berger: We read five times that you were killed, in five different places.
Victor Laszlo: As you can see, it was true every single time.

Ilsa: Play it once, Sam. For old times' sake.
Sam: I don't know what you mean, Miss Ilsa.
Ilsa: Play it, Sam. Play "As Time Goes By."

HUMPHREY BOGART
Humphrey Bogart was a great character in the history of cinema. He achieved fame all over the world of his roles of gangsters, detectives and hard guys.
Humphrey DeForest Bogart was born in New York in 1900. In 1930 he made his first film, Broadway's Like That. In 1941 he played the role of detective Sam Spade in The Maltese Falcon and in 1942 he achieved great success with the role of Rick in Casablanca with actress Ingrid Bergman.
1945 was an important year for Bogart because he met actress Lauren Bacall in the film To have and Have Not. That year they made another film together, The Big Sleep, in which Bogart was Philip Marlowe, a private eye. In May Bogart married Lauren Bacall; he was 45 and she was 19.
His film career continued and in 1951 he received an Oscar for his role of a cockney captain in The African Queen, with actress Catherine Hepburn.
In 1954 he participated in the film Sabrina with actor William Holdein and actress Audrey Hepburn. In this film he was Linus Larrabee, a millionaire. Humphrey Bogart died in Hollywood in 1954.

TWO SONGS

AS TIME GOES BY
You must remember this
A kiss is still a kiss, a sigh is just a sigh
The fundamental things apply
As time goes by
And when two lovers woo
They still say, "I love you"
On that you can rely
No matter what the future brings
As time goes by

Chorus (twice)
Moonlight and love songs
Never out of date
Hearts full of passion
Jealousy and hate
Woman needs man
And man must have his mate
That no one can deny
it's still the same old story
A fight for love and glory
A case of do or die
The world will always welcome lovers
As time goes by

YOUTUBE

AS TIME GOES BY
You must remember this
A kiss is still a kiss, a sigh is just a sigh
The fundamental things apply
As time goes by
And when two lovers woo
They still say, "I love you"
On that you can rely
No matter what the future brings
As time goes by

Chorus (twice)
Moonlight and love songs
Never out of date
Hearts full of passion
Jealousy and hate
Woman needs man
And man must have his mate
That no one can deny
it's still the same old story
A fight for love and glory
A case of do or die
The world will always welcome lovers
As time goes by
KNOCK ON WOOD
Say, who’s got trouble?...
