DEBATE.1 ANIMAL TESTING. IS THE SUFFERING UNNECESSARY?

What do you feel is more important: the life of your child or the life of a few rats? The debate about experiments on animals for medicine and cosmetics is heavily polarised.

A. In your capacity as a researcher argue that animal testing is necessary. We need animal experiments to discover how safe new drugs are before we give them to humans. The animal right campaigners have the misguided sentimentality.

B. As a member of the Royal Society for the Protection of Animals argue that this practice is unnecessary and cruel. The researchers have a tireless pursuit of human happiness and health. Animals are not the same as humans, so drugs that affect them in one way may well affect us humans differently
